Ed eccomi lì tutto fiero che lurko nello store di Itunes quando improvvisamente mi imbatto nell’anteprima di 300 la colonna sonora.
9.90 € per 26 tracce con tanto di booklet originale in pdf. Dico io: “per essere una nuova uscita è lanciato ad un ottimo prezzo!”.
Perfetto clikko sul prodotto, inserisco la password di convalida e mi scarico tutti i brani. Durante il film avevo colto qualche musica che mi aveva suscitato emozioni e di conseguenza mi sono detto che investire qualche euro in queste sound track non sarebbe stato sacrilego. Infatti così è!
Varia e musicalmente ineccepibile. Ascoltandola mi si sono evocate scene di qualsivoglia genere eroico. Epicità trasudata in ogni nota.
Penserete che stia esagerando, ed in effetti avete ragione. Sto esagerando. Sebbene ad un primo ascolto, forse poco attento, la colonna sonora mi avesse entusiasmato, riascoltandola più volte mi sono accorto del reale motivo che tanto me l’aveva fatta amare all’inizio. Il motivo di tale amore sono le innumerevoli citazioni (copiature) di altre colonne sonore, piuttosto note, suonate in altri film. Una di queste me l’ha fatta addirittura notare mia madre che incuriosita si è affacciata alla porta di camera mia esclamando: “Cosa fai? Guardi un’altra volta il Signore degli Anelli? Ebbasta… ma non ti viene annoia!!”.
Inarcando il sopracciglio mi vado a riascoltare la fantastica voce di Azam Ali (“Goodbye My Love”), ed a questo punto la mia mente corre verso Howard Shore de Il Signore degli Anelli. Mia madre ha un orecchio fine direi.
La mia curiosità non è soddisfatta e riascolto più volte ancora la colonna sonora. Poiché avevo già avuto dei dejavu decido di approfondire la mia ricerca e non fidandomi solo della mia memoria metto nel pc le mie colonne sonore in cuffia, nell’audio esterno della camera smanetto il mio Dolby pro-logic 5.1 ed il paragone musicale ha inizio. “Evvai!” esclamo. Lo sapevo che ne coglievo un’altra. I gorgheggi marocchini bellissimi ed evocativi di Gregson-Williams de “Le Crociate”. Sembrano proprio quelli utilizzati da lui nel film. Quindi mi metto a rovistare nei tributi del film per verificare se questo giovane compositore “Tyler Bates” non abbia partecipato anche alle Crociate. Con mio rammarico la risposta è negativa.
Inutile a questo punto citare l’enfasi rockeggiante alla Zimmer, cosa che era segnalata persino nelle recensioni dell’Itunes Store e che francamente tutti coloro con un minimo di cultura musicale avevano colto.

Dopo questo incipit certo non posso lodare Tyler Bates. Vero che sia un compositore giovane ed è vero che inizialmente tutti i compositori ricalcano qualcosa di già usato, ma visto la maestria con cui questa colonna sonora è gestita si poteva presagire più spazio all’originalità.

Nessuno potrà dire che Tyler non abbia tratto ispirazione dalle opere che ho poc’anzi citato, ma una lancia in suo favore va spezzata. Probabile che molte sue scelte musicali siano state dettate dal regista Zack Snyder che inculcando nella testa del compositore chissà quali idee ed aspettative lo ha portato un tantinello fuori strada.

In generale, per concludere, non mi sento di bocciare del tutto questa colonna sonora che presenta un ottimo livello di dettaglio acustico. Da un punto di vista di qualità senza ombra di dubbio valevole.

Diciamo le tracce più belle rimangono quelle citate. Comunque vale la pena di ascoltarle almeno da un punto di vista strettamente qualitativo. Eccellente To Victory con tamburi evocativi, voci d’oriente e carica adrenalinica. Passionale Goodbye My Love con una voce indimenticabile. Esaltazione con Glory.

Se si amano le colonne sonore e si ha una buona collezione questo album non aggiungerà nulla di nuovo a quello che già avete.

I first met Tyler when he came in to meet me regarding composing the music for Dawn of the Dead. He was not trying to be cool and standoffish, as many of the others I had met with had been. He was instantly enthusiastic for the potential of not just the score, but for the film itself. I think that's what struck me — it wasn't about my pictures and his music, it was about what they could be together, that there was not one without the other. Music is the soul of a movie, it is the part of a movie that moves through you, that physically reaches out and touches the viewer, and Tyler understood that.
When it came to 300, I went to Tyler in the earliest stages. Before writing the script, before I drew a single frame, I went to Tyler for help and inspiration, two things he continues to unselfishly supply me with to this day. For me, Tyler's score for 300 moves the film into mythology, it cauterizes the images as you view them, making them something they could never be alone. He is an artist and a friend. So, as you listen to his score and feel the wounds in your imagination burning closed, shut your eyes and see your own movie come to life in your mind. It works for me.
